Lost Friends Over Time
By Chad Michael Mallett

I have had some really great friends I met online over the years. Some from when ICQ first started. Way before yahoo messenger and all that jazz. I remember being one of the first 100 hundreds to be addicted to ICQ. I was in a chatroom at the time called love search.com. Later it went down, but before that they had a link to another chatroom. It was called Open 24. The program that ran those chatrooms was called “ichat”. You had to download the ichat plug-in to use them. When yahoo opened it’s first chatroom they used ichat for a while. Then it went to java and all kinds of other wild things. Later it went into yahoo messenger and such. In Open 24 I hung out in the teen rooms a lot, but mostly in the room titled “Entertainment”. That room was my first chatroom to really make a bunch of friends. Before that in love search.com I found a friend named Motown. Lovesearch.com was basically the only place I found with a chatroom that auto scrolled. You didn’t have to click a refresh button. I made tons of friends. Most of them I lost contact with and when ICQ when into nothing anymore some went to aim, excite, yahoo, msn, and others. I chose to use mainly yahoo at the time. I then made more friends and lost some great ones along the way. Some would mainly just stop coming online. Then if I changed names it would be hard to find them again. You know? I miss such people like “redbug”, “chere”, “tigger”, “naenae”, “kama”, “Jamie”, “Natalie”, “Tuesday”, and many others. They changed their nick’s so much it was hard to keep up. I remember the dude Jimmy, that guy was crazy as shit. He was a hippie kid who’d get high while online. Talk about come up with some crazy shit and along with me we’d start wars in chatrooms, haha. I do wish I would have kept in contact with as many of them as possible. It was very hard to keep in touch when it just stopped being there. From the girl I once knew that was in college who suffered from Insomnia to the Canadian female that had s.a.d. There were some in Virginia, Australia, and all over the world. Friends will be lost in the net somewhere, but for damn sure they will never be forgotten. Hell I remember a lot of what went on back in the day. From windows 95, to windows 98, to windows xp. I had many sites along the way. From one at angelfire, to one at geocities, to my own domain name to many others. I helped with blessid union of souls official website. I even remember a friend with the name of angelfire that had no idea there was a free homepage site with the same name. Alisha was a great friend as well. Along with others. Hell Jimmy McCracken whoever that guy was gave me some of the biggest laughs in chatrooms. Motown was my first net friend. The guy was a riot. We talked many times then the chatroom shut down. No more running the rooms and crap. It just went away. No way of contacting him. ICQ wasn’t talked about then. I remember bastet22. She was really sweet. Her name was Alicia. She was like probably my first crush online. We talked many times and just decided to take a break from one another. Then time went on with a ways of parting once again. I truly wish I could talk back with some of those friends of mine. Hell if they ever stumble onto my website. Feel free to contact me. I am mainly on yahoo messenger, but here is my name on the main 3 I use:

Yahoo: paranchad
ICQ# 2676927
MSN: imcnote@hotmail.com
email: purg@xpurgatoryx.com

I really wish I could see some of you again. And maybe make some new friends along the way. This really isn’t an opinion or anything. It’s just don’t let go of your friends. Sometimes family is blood, but sometimes friends are heart, passion, emotion, and there to totally pick your ass up off the floor when you fall. Well thanks for listening. Bye! --chad--
